The Radiodetection CAT4 keeps the locating controls familiar, with a clear signal display and audible feedback to help a trained operator follow the route of a detected service.

Choose the CAT4 for straightforward locating

The CAT4 is the starting point in this range. Power, Radio and Genny modes let you investigate different detectable signals; Avoidance mode brings those signals together for an initial sweep. The signal bargraph and its peak marker help you follow a response. A quiet reading is not proof that an area is clear.

StrikeAlert and interference protection

This new listing specifies StrikeAlert, an audible and visual warning for shallow detected services in supported modes. Dynamic Overload Protection helps the receiver work in electrically noisy locations, but strong interference can still affect a locate. These aids support careful use; they do not replace a complete survey or safe excavation procedures.

Build the right locating kit

A new Genny4 signal generator or refurbished Genny4 lets you apply a traceable signal to a suitable service, rather than relying only on signals already present. It is optional with this standalone locator. Choose the connection method and accessories for the job, following the manufacturer instructions.

When clamp application is appropriate, a 100 mm Genny clamp connects to the transmitter, not directly to the CAT receiver. A used 100 mm clamp is another buying option. Check connector compatibility, service diameter and condition; clamp operation is not required for every direct connection.

For a non-metallic pipe or duct, a compatible 33 kHz S18A sonde or Standard 33 kHz sonde provides a locatable point. To push a suitable sonde through the route, compare 9 mm × 60 m Flexrod and 9 mm × 120 m Flexrod, checking the coupling and pipe clearance.

To trace an energised rod route instead, compare FlexiTrace 50 m and FlexiTrace 80 m. FlexiTrace needs a suitable transmitter connection; a plain Flexrod does not create that line-tracing signal.

For transport, choose the CAT4/CAT3 soft carry bag for the handheld instrument or compare the CAT-and-Genny soft bag for a combined kit. Arrange ongoing CAT and Genny servicing and calibration separately from the purchase warranty.

Which CAT4 model fits your work?

Need an estimated depth as well as the route? Compare the CAT4+. If your team also needs records of how and where the locator was used, consider the gCAT4+. The standard CAT4 does not provide those functions.

New equipment suits buyers who want an unused unit or whose procurement policy specifies new stock. This new CAT4 includes StrikeAlert. The refurbished CAT4 EN09/29 is a lower-cost alternative with a 12-month warranty and 12-month calibration; that refurbished offer does not include StrikeAlert.

Is a Genny included?

No Genny is included in the base standalone-locator offer shown here. Select it in the existing options panel if required; check the chosen option’s contents.

Does the CAT4 show depth?

No. Choose a CAT4+ for estimated depth, or a gCAT4+ for estimated depth together with usage logging and GPS/GNSS records.

Can it locate a plastic pipe on its own?

Not the unenergised plastic material itself. A suitable sonde or traceable rod system provides a signal that the locator can detect, subject to the application and operating conditions.

Does a quiet reading mean the area is clear?

No. Some services do not carry a detectable signal, and one response can mask another. Use the complete survey and safe excavation procedure required for your site, with the manufacturer operating instructions.
