A sonde is a small, self-contained transmitter you push into a non-metallic pipe or drain so it can be located and pinpointed from the surface with a CAT or locator. Sondes are how you find the plastic pipes, clay drains and empty ducts that an electromagnetic locator cannot detect on its own.
