Give a non-metallic pipe a locatable point

A CAT cannot detect an unenergised plastic pipe simply because it is there. A sonde supplies a signal inside the pipe, allowing a compatible receiver above ground to locate the transmitter position. Use a suitable rod or insertion method for the pipe and application.

Match size, thread and frequency

The S18A body is 18 mm in diameter. Length changes with the fitted end cap, so include the cap, coupling and bends when assessing clearance. This is the 33 kHz version. A quoted sonde depth is a manufacturer reference under suitable conditions, not a guaranteed result with every receiver or pipe.

Choose the compatible CAT4 locator

Use a receiver that supports this 33 kHz sonde signal. For core route tracing, compare the new CAT4 or refurbished CAT4. For estimated depth in Genny mode, compare the new CAT4+ and refurbished CAT4+. If your team also needs usage and location records, compare the new gCAT4+ and refurbished gCAT4+. New or refurbished condition does not add a feature that the locator model lacks.

Build a compatible locating system

Match the transmitter, receiver, signal frequency and mechanical connection to the application. Use compatible equipment together and follow the manufacturer instructions and your site’s safe system of work.
