Radiodetection gCAT4+ Cable Locator | GPS, Logging & Depth | New

The Radiodetection gCAT4+ adds an evidence trail to the CAT4 locating workflow. Alongside tracing and estimated depth, it records usage information and GPS/GNSS positions that supervisors can review to understand working practices and identify training needs.

Review usage, not just the final locate

Data logging records how the instrument is used, while GPS/GNSS adds location information. C.A.T Manager for PC supports local review and configuration; the compatible mobile app can transfer data to C.A.T Manager Online. A recorded instrument position is not a surveyed position for a buried asset, and GPS performance depends on reception conditions.

Support consistent operating practice

SWING warning alerts to excessive movement or an unsuitable angle, with warnings recorded in the log. CALSafe can be configured to prevent use after the calibration interval expires. StrikeAlert and Dynamic Overload Protection support the locating task. These features help a managed workflow without replacing training, a complete survey or safe excavation procedures.

Build the right locating kit

A new Genny4 signal generator or refurbished Genny4 lets you apply a traceable signal to a suitable service, rather than relying only on signals already present. It is optional with this standalone locator. Choose the connection method and accessories for the job, following the manufacturer instructions.

When clamp application is appropriate, a 100 mm Genny clamp connects to the transmitter, not directly to the CAT receiver. A used 100 mm clamp is another buying option. Check connector compatibility, service diameter and condition; clamp operation is not required for every direct connection.

For a non-metallic pipe or duct, a compatible 33 kHz S18A sonde or Standard 33 kHz sonde provides a locatable point. To push a suitable sonde through the route, compare 9 mm × 60 m Flexrod and 9 mm × 120 m Flexrod, checking the coupling and pipe clearance.

To trace an energised rod route instead, compare FlexiTrace 50 m and FlexiTrace 80 m. FlexiTrace needs a suitable transmitter connection; a plain Flexrod does not create that line-tracing signal.

For transport, choose the CAT4/CAT3 soft carry bag for the handheld instrument or compare the CAT-and-Genny soft bag for a combined kit. Arrange ongoing CAT and Genny servicing and calibration separately from the purchase warranty.

Which CAT4 model fits your work?

The gCAT4+ suits teams that need usage records and supervisory review as well as locating and estimated depth. If those records are unnecessary, CAT4+ is the simpler depth-capable option. If depth is also unnecessary, compare the standard CAT4.

New hardware for a managed fleet

New gCAT4+ stock suits buyers who prefer unused equipment or need to meet a new-only purchasing policy. C.A.T Manager software and account services are managed separately from the locator. The refurbished gCAT4+ provides a lower-cost alternative with a 12-month warranty and 12-month calibration.

Before you order

Is a Genny included?

No Genny is included in the base standalone-locator offer shown here. Select it in the existing options panel if required; check the chosen option’s contents.

Does it measure depth?

It estimates depth in Genny mode when the signal and operating conditions permit. Follow the line or sonde method in the operating instructions. A depth reading is not clearance to excavate.

Can it locate a plastic pipe on its own?

Not the unenergised plastic material itself. A suitable sonde or traceable rod system provides a signal that the locator can detect, subject to the application and operating conditions.

Does a quiet reading mean the area is clear?

No. Some services do not carry a detectable signal, and one response can mask another. Use the complete survey and safe excavation procedure required for your site, with the manufacturer operating instructions.
